How and where the Parish Council fits in to the democratic process of local government

Parish, community and town councils operate at a level below district and borough councils. They are elected and can help on a number of local issues, for example: allotments, public clocks, bus shelters, community centres, play areas & play equipment, grants to help local organisations, and consultation on planning.

You can view further information about how local councils work, including the different types of council, decision making processes, spending & accounts, role of councillors, elections, and how to make a complaint by visiting the website Government Local Council Services.

Parish Meetings

Parish Meetings take place on the second Thursday every two months, and are scheduled for May, July, September, November, January and March. Meetings are held at the Leathley Village Hall, commencing at 8.00pm. You can attend most council meetings, although usually you won’t be able to speak at them.
